Learn how to use walk-up USB printing to quickly print files without sending them from a computer. The printer accepts standard USB flash drives in the easy-access USB port that is located on the front of the printer.
Walk-up USB printing is not supported on LaserJet Pro printer models that have a 2-line LCD control panel.
The following file types are supported when printing from a USB flash drive:

.pdf
-
.jpg
-
.prn
-
.pcl
-
.ps
-
.doc and .docx
-
.ppt and .pptx
The M377, M426, M427, M452, and M477 printer models also support two additional file types, as follows:

.cht
-
.pxl
The steps to print from a USB flash drive vary depending on the type of control panel on the printer.

Follow these steps for LaserJet Pro MFP models that have a touchscreen control panel with a white background.

In addition to the instructions below, you can view the following video of how to print from a USB flash drive.

Insert the USB flash drive into the USB port that is located below the control panel on the front of the printer, and then wait until the printer detects the flash drive.
NOTE:The walk-up USB printing feature is enabled by default. However, if the printer does not detect the USB flash drive, contact your IT Administrator to make sure the feature has not been disabled.

When the Memory Device Options screen displays, touch Print Documents.

Scroll to and touch the name of the file that you want to print.
NOTE:If the file is stored in a folder, touch the name of the folder, and then scroll to and touch the name of the file.

When the Print from USB menu displays, touch any of the following menu items to change the settings for the print job:

2-Sided
-
Tray Selection
-
Copies
For additional options, touch the Settings icon

Touch Print to print the job.

Retrieve the printed job from the output bin, and then remove the USB flash drive from the USB port.

Step one: Enable the USB port on the printer
Before you can use the walk-up USB printing feature, you must first enable the USB port on the printer using the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
To access the EWS, you will need the printer's IP address. You can obtain the printer's IP address on the printer control panel.
Follow these steps to obtain the printer's IP address and then access the EWS and enable the USB port.

Obtain the printer's IP address:

From the Home screen on the printer control panel, touch the Network button
to display the printer's IP address or host name.

Open the HP Embedded Web Server (EWS):

On your computer, open a Web browser, and in the address bar, type the IP address or host name exactly as it displayed on the printer control panel.

Press Enter on the computer keyboard.
NOTE:If the browser displays a message indicating that accessing the website might not be safe, select the option to continue to the website. Accessing the website will not harm the computer.
The EWS opens.

On the EWS Home page, click the System tab.

In the left navigation pane, click Administration.
-
In the list of Enabled Options, find the USB Flash Drive option, and select On.

Click Apply to save the settings.
Step two: Print from a USB flash drive
After enabling the USB port, follow these steps to print from a USB flash drive.

Locate the walk-up USB port on the front of the printer.
NOTE:The location of the walk-up USB port varies by printer model.
EXAMPLE OF A WALK-UP USB PORT LOCATION

Insert the USB flash drive into the USB port, and then wait until the printer detects the flash drive.

When the USB Flash Drive menu displays, touch one of the following options:

Print Documents
-
View and Print Photos

Scroll to and touch the name of the file (document or photo) that you want to print. If the file is stored in a folder, touch the name of the folder first, and then touch the name of the file.
NOTE:For photos, you can touch the thumbnail image to preview the photo before printing, and then touch Done.

When the summary screen displays, touch any of the menu items to adjust the settings for the print job.

Touch Print to print the job.

Retrieve the printed job from the output bin, and then remove the USB flash drive from the USB port.
